Rectifying the Past [ONE SHOT] -
Dick, you have your work cutout for you. But you are nothing if not stubborn.
OMG, this was just so precious.
The lead up; Tim rationalising his parents actions, you just find yourself wanting for him to resent them. Because they are undeserving of his teeny tiny trust.
Once he’d made the mistake of showing his parents a photo he’d gotten recently of Batman and the, then, Robin. His father had waved him away while his mother asked why he wasn’t studying.
This breaks my heart, because it’s not a mistake in the sense of ‘oh oops I’ve been caught out’. It’s him feeling like his pride in himself was misplaced and that he was wrong to feel it.
Poor babyyyy ;__;
*gives him all the medals*
He knew when people were hiding over when they just didn’t know how to speak.
I really love that line. And this is one of the reasons I adore the babbies; they just compliment eachother so nicely.
And you write that aspect of their relationship, whether as brothers or more, so perfect imo.
~I love how determined Dick is in this.
This is his personal little mission. And I kind of imagine Tim is aware that he’s up to soemthing, probably wouldnt realise what it was, would possibly misinterpret it for a whole 2 seconds before remembering who he’s thinking about.
Im also loving how Tim is so accepting of Dick’s snooping. He just lets him poke through his things, because, lets be honest. If Tim didn’t want him to, they wouldnt be within access.
Also, jumping back, I absolutely love the term ‘squirelling’ something away. Psshh as if Tim wasn’t cute enough already.
Tim paused in his work to look up and over at Dick. His face was nearly expressionless, but an edge of exhaustion lingered about his eyes. If he could, Dick would force Tim to sleep, even if it meant sitting on him.
I think this should happen, asap. C’mon, Dick, get on it….literally. But seriously, that is so cute ;w;
For a moment Tim looked curious. He took the paper from Dick and glanced it over. The curiosity died and he set the paper, face down, on the desk. “It’s just a test.”
Againnnn, this is so sad. ‘Nothing worth interest’ To think that this is how Tim sees his own achievements is just heartbreaking. And it’s not even low self esteem, its just this genuine belief that there is nothing worth mention in this.
Right now, Dick was using the skill to check Tim’s report card. Sure enough, everything boasted an A or, at the very least, a high B. It made Dick whistle, impressed.
“Whoa. That’s awesome.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Dick watched a faint pink cross Tim’s cheeks.
“Not really. They’re just grades. Can I have my computer back?”
Dick ignored him, still going through the class lists.
I like to think that anwhere there’s a B, there was probably something Bat related that affected his study/homework time. And Dick spotting a date for one and having it click in his head and quickly eyeing the rest and seeing they too are similar.
Tim blushing is just precious, Dick needs to illicit this response more and…vary the method. Make it into another experiment. Tim appreciates experiments….right?
No but really, I love how you’ve written this, just Dick’s excitement at how well Tim has done. And his interest in it. He’s throwing Tim right off balance.
There was an almost audible swallow on Tim’s part. He shook his head ever so slightly. “No, I don’t need to bother him with this. He’s got better things to deal with.”
That made Dick go ram-rod straight. He looked down at Tim, face so close to a glare (frankly, it made Tim a little nervous). “Tim, this is important stuff. Your grades are amazing. I’m sure he’d be pleased to see them.”
Tim shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
This…THIIISSS, I have 2 theories on Tim’s nervousness.
One is that he’s fearing that Dick is finally realising that this is nothing to be excited about. And that Bruce, in turn, will be bothered by the intrusion for something so unimportant.
Or that this is being jotted away into the little notebook in Tim’s head, and Dick telling Bruce might ruin it for him, break this spell where he means so much to these people that they care about what he does.
But you are special, Timmy.
“Whatever you want is fine,” Tim answered.
Dick didn’t sigh, not really. He knew Tim’s favorite was pineapple and ham. He’d order that, even if his favorite was plain old cheese.
Poor Tim, he really just adapts himself to suit other peoples needs.
I love that Dick didn’t push him, Take it one small victory at a time. Don’t make him shy away.
I also like to think of this pizza as an excuse for Dick to sit as close to Tim as possible so he can pick the toppings off his slice and put them on Tims…or better still…FEED THEM TO HIM 8DDD
This was so so cute ;w;
Thank you for taking the time to write it! I love your fics so so much.
